Tips For Taking Care Of TENS Unit Pads

TENS machines are used by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world to provide relief from pain. To use these machines, you need to apply gel to each electrode and place them on your skin after cleaning your skin with rubbing alcohol. These electrodes are held in place with the help of TENS unit pads.

These pads are available at a low price, but this doesn’t mean you should start using new TENS unit pads if the old ones don’t work. Sometimes, you can make your old pads work by cleaning them. The best way to clean these pads is to use a damp cloth; it’s important that you don’t use paper towels or anything else that can get stuck to the pad. Wipe away all debris from the pads with the help of the damp cloth and don’t forget to clean your skin before applying the pads.

You also need to make sure that there is some stickiness left on each gel pad before you use them. If you find that there’s no grip left on a pad, it should be cleaned or replaced. You may need to moisten the pads if they’re completely dry, but it’s important that you only use a small amount of water. You should never submerge them or hold them underwater as it will result in oversaturation and will damage the electrodes.

It’s also important that you regularly rotate the TENS unit pads to avoid oversaturation. Experts recommend allowing electrodes to dry out by removing them at least every four to six hours, and the gel should be exposed to cold air for at least 24 hours before you reuse the pads. You can also store the electrodes in a frost-free refrigerator, as cold temperature combined with a lack of humidity helps to get rid of excess water and prevents oversaturation.

Over time, the adhesive on these TENS unit pads will dry out. In such cases, you won’t be able to do much by cleaning them. Sometimes, high humidity or heavy sweating can reduce the effectiveness of the pads. This is another reason it’s recommended that you switch the electrodes every four to six hours. It’s also important that you never take your machine out in the rain or near water.

As mentioned above, you’ll need to replace the TENS unit pads once they stop sticking to your skin entirely. The typical lifespan of these pads is 1–3 months, depending on the number of times they’ve been reused. You can easily extend the life of these pads by wiping them off gently after each use. It’s also important to store them in a dry place.

There are a number of different manufacturers of TENS unit pads. It’s important that you buy a quality pad as you’ll need to replace the cheaper ones more often. In other words, you’ll end up paying a lot more money using cheaper pads. You should generally replace the pads after 30 uses. Keep in mind that the pads affect the quality of your treatment and, therefore, you should always buy the highest quality ones available; these are usually sold in packs of 12 and 20 and generally don’t cost much.
